Biography
Ann Börestam, Adviser Market Integration, European Central Bank, is coordinating work related to retail payments and financial integration. She has been intensely involved in retail payments innovation and the legal aspects of payment integration. Before joining the ECB, Ann worked for the Swedish Bankers’ Association, the Swedish Ministry of Industry and the Swedish ACH, Bankgirot. Ann has a Master of Law Degree from Stockholm University.Presentation
Instant payments - a complement or a competitor to cash?The SEPA Instant Credit Transfer scheme was launched in November 2017, and more and more payment service providers are joining up and offering instant payment services to their customers. The ECB supports the development of instant payments as a basis for further innovation in the retail payments market. This presentation will cover the current state of play of instant payments in Europe, focusing in particular on the development of innovative end-user solutions for various use cases. It will address the benefits such solutions could have for end-users and the potential impact on their payment behaviour.
